Two-Alarm House Fire in Parkesburg Borough

By KVFD
March 12, 2016

The Keystone Valley Fire Department was dispatched at 8:13 AM for a trash fire in the area of the 500 block of W. Fourth Avenue in the Borough of Parkesburg. This was in the area of yesterday's house fire. While units were responding, firefighters and the police reported that it was actually a fully involved house fire in a block of rowhomes.

At 8:19 AM, the incident was upgraded to a working house fire. This brought a mutual aid response from multiple surrounding fire companies and EMS units.

Units responding were advised heavy fire was showing from the second floor. Assistant 8 (Ass't Chief Klingler) arrived on-scene and found the middle of the row with adjoining structures on fire. He assumed "Fourth Avenue Command" and directed the operation.

The fire's progression was being fed by today's winds and the incident was escalating rapidly so Command requested the second (2nd) alarm fire assignment.

Firefighters pulled a 5" LDH supply line, and connected to a hydrant at the intersection and that line supplied Ladder 8. Ladder 8's crew pulled two 1 3/4" lines and initiated an aggressive interior under heavy fire conditions. Engine 8-2 arrived at the rear of the row homes, connected to a hydrant also began an aggressive interior attack in concert with Ladder 8's crew. KVFD firefighters were soon joined by firefighters from Tanker 8, Engine 31-1, and Engine 27-2 in the initial fire suppression operation.

Soon crews from many companies worked together and conducted fire suppression, roof operations, salvage and overall. Firefighters were clear of the scene by noon.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office and Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.

There were no injuries, however, today's fire displaced 8 adults and four children from their homes. The Red Cross is assisting them.

Local churches and neighbors have started a donation for the families involved and more information is forthcoming! Watch for further information on our Facebook page.

The KVFD would like to thank everyone that assisted at this incident and our thoughts are with the families that are involved and displaced. Thanks to the Community, Neighbors, Mutual-Aid companies, Borough of Parkesburg and support from everyone involved.
