Firefighters and Police at Gateway Church
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By KVFD
April 24, 2016

This morning KVFD and SFC firefighters and EMTs, with police officers from Sadsbury Township and West Caln Township, presented a static display and age appropriate discussion of fire, EMT and police topics to groups of children attending Gateway Church's pre-school children's ministry. Also, a local veterinarian and a nurse made presentations.

Gateway's preschool has been learning about "community helpers" all month long. They requested that we assist by setting up at the back of the church and discuss how we serve as "community helpers." The children were into groups and rotated through the stations. Each station spent a few minutes telling the kids how they help the community. There were two sessions: a 20-minute session for first service and 30-minutes for the second. The display was scheduled for 9:30A-9:50A for first service and 11:15A-11:45A for the second service.

The Sadsburyville Fire Company brought Engine 31-1 and covered the fire response and suppression. The children really enjoyed using a hose to spray water and the hand-outs including an SFC helmet and a fire truck model.

KVFD brought Ambulance 8-1 and the career staff firefighters/EMT's discussed their role in emergency medicine while the crew of Utility 8 discussed the rescue tools, especially the Hurst tool aka "Jaw's of Life." The police officers talked about their role in protecting the community and the children had an opportunity to tour the police cars.

Other participants discussed their role in helping the community and another very popular station was Dr. Annika Griffiths with Sporting Chance Farm who brought a pony.

Thanks to all the community helpers who assisted Gateway today!

Please watch our Facebook page for an album of photos from our photographer and two of Gateway's photographers.

Units: Amb 8-1 and Utility 8
