Many years of hard work and meetings by a truck committee, led by Chief Engineer Gary Myers, concluded with KVFD recently placing an order with Glick Fire Equipment for a new rescue/engine to replace Rescue 8. This will be the first piece of apparatus purchased by KVFD since the Consolidation in 2013.

The current Rescue 8, a 1994 E-One Cyclone II rescue/pumper, has served us well over the last 23 years. But it's at the "end of life." So the committee selected Glick Fire Equipment to supply a new Pierce Mfg. Enforcer PUC Rescue/Engine. It is due to be delivered in the spring of 2018.

As recommended in the study, we are making KVFD lean by reducing apparatus and the overall cost of maintenance. Our goal is to maintain an engine, a ladder truck, a tanker, a rescue/engine, a " tac" unit, along with a command unit, other support units, and at least two ambulances. This is a very significant reduction in our fleet from the consolidation in 2013.

Assistant Chief Rick Klingler said, "The rescue will be a 2018 Pierce PUC Enforcer with a rescue style body. It will have a six man cab. The pump will be a 1500 gpm with 500 gals of water."

"The new rescue will have five preconnects, two off the front bumper and three off the rear. The hose bed will hold 1000' of 5" and 300' of 3" hose. Delivery of the unit will be spring of 2018," said Ass't Chief Klingler.
