| On Friday morning June 7th, 2013 at 0323 hours the Chester County Fire Radio dispatched Keystone Valley Fire Department and Lancaster County 52 for a Engine for an automatic fire alarm at High Energy Corporation at 4480 Lower Valley Road.
Engine 8-2 (w/4) made the response along with Assistant 8 (Cazillo) at 0331 hours. Engine 8-2 arrived at 0333 hours investigating. Ladder 8 (w/5) made the response and arrived to the rear of the building with light smoke showing and crews investigating.
Assistant Chief Cazillo assumed the High Energy Command and advised to upgrade the assignment at 0339 hours to a building response.
Crews where reporting smoke showing to the rear of the building and CCFR advised of the water flow alarm indicating. Engine 8-2 and Ladder 8 crews found a fire in the middle of the building to which a 1 ¾ attack line was stretched and extinguished the rest of the fire.
Engine 52-1 members along with members of KVFD began the search to locate the source. As crews made their way further inside the 1 story commercial structure, smoke became heavier and eventually the source was located. A fire had broken out on a maintenance table within the structure and was extinguished by the sprinkler system before crews had arrived.
Command requested the WFD (Working fire dispatch) at 0350 hours with crews reporting a working fire. Additional units where added from Christiana Fire Company (52) and Gap Fire Company (42) and Cochranville (27) for Rescue 27.
Arrival of additional unit's on-scene, Deputy Chief Gathercole took operations as Assistant Cazillo ran High Energy Command. Deputy 42 (Gap) took Manpower to the rear of the building and accountability was in place from the Officer of Engine 8-2 (Delestienne).
Engine 8-1 stood-by at the hydrant which was not used as Engine 8-2 was supplied by Christiana Tanker 52-2.
Chief 52 Reimold and Lieutetants from Station # 8 handled the interior operations and ventilation with assignment of crews.
Crews contained the fire and the smoke within the building. The building is a 55,000 sq. foot building containing various chemicals and equipment. Crews placed fans in service from multiple accesses and removed the smoke condition.
Ladder 8 was in place to the rear with Ladder 42 set-up on the side of the building.
The situation was placed under control by Command at 0404 hours with all units working.
As the situation was under control utilities where handled along with the investigation by Chester County Fire Marshals Officer (FM 101, 103).
The investigation is under investigation by the CCFM Office. High Energy representatives were on-scene and the damage was contained to only a portion of the plant which allowed work to be conducted around that portion.
All units cleared the scene at 0516 hours with Command terminating the incident.
Crews working on-scene did a great a job in the adverse weather conditions and working together in teams due to the size of the structure.
