Several of our Junior Firefighters volunteered to help Pastor Dwayne Walton and Pastor Chandal Taylor with the Point's "Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service" celebration at the Parkesburg Point today.

The community was invited to join The Point for a pancake breakfast and then small service projects around The Point.

Pastor Dwayne Walton said,"The KVFD youth were incredible, I was totally surprised because I didn't expect them to be here. They were productive and exactly the type of behavior and service we would like kids attending The Point to model."

Pastor Chandal Taylor, Volunteer Coordinator at The Point posted today on Facebook in reference to the event,"Takes a community to change a community. Thankful for those that come and volunteer."

They ended the day by taking dozens of donated boxes of cereal to the Octorara Area Food Cupboard.

Deputy Chief Brian Gathercole said, "It's impressive for young men and women that are already serving the community as junior firefighters, to reach out even further to serve others in our community."

The Juniors participated and worked with local children and families of the area helping at the Parkesburg Point. The Juniors stated "they were serving the community in a different way this morning."

This culminated a busy weekend for the Juniors who still have a training night tonight. On Saturday several Juniors helped to relocate surplus equipment to a central site for disposition. A dirty job lifting and carrying heavy stuff; then washed, waxed and polished an Engine, and cleaned a Squad. All while being ready to gear up, hop on a truck and respond to your emergency!

Yet another example of how KVFD partners with others in our community, and how our young folks are "rocking it." Junior Firefighters are the FUTURE of the fire service.
