March 23, 2014

On Sunday, at 9:57 AM, Tanker 8 was dispatched to assist Station #27, Cochranville Fire Company, at a structure fire in the 1400 block of Homeville Road. One of the first arriving Station#27 chiefs reported a fully involved dwelling fire. Mutual units were dispatched from throughout Western Chester County,Eastern Chester County and Cecil County, MD., including a tanker task force.

Tanker 8 responded with additional KVFD firefighters standing by on station to assist if called. During the early stages of the suppression efforts County Fire radio relayed a report of a "Mayday" (firefighter in distress), from a firefighter inside the house. This was soon cleared with early unconfirmed reports being that a firefighter's foot fell through the floor.

Tanker 8 returned to the station at 1:40 PM. Station #27's "Homeville Command" reported that all units cleared from the scene at 2:45 PM.

The homeowner, Mr. Sam Ganow, a longtime school board member reported this morning via Facebook, that no one was hurt however a family dog, "Dozer" perished in the fire. The house sustained major damage.

An investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal and PA State Police is in progress.
