KVFD volunteers and career staff logged a busy day on Wednesday responding to what could have been serious calls in the District. Fortunately many turned out to be minor fire type investigations, and the normal run of EMS calls.

At 1:03 AM, Ambulance 8-2 responded to a residence on Church Street in the Borough of Parkesburg for an injured person.

At 4:44 PM, Ambulance 8-2 with a paramedic from Brandywine Hospital were dispatched to an injured person at the LGH Health - Urgent Care. The patient was a toddler who reportedly had fallen out of a shopping cart and sustained a possible head injury. A medical helicopter was requested initially, but then soon cancelled, but this triggered the first of our fire calls, for a landing zone stand-by.

Volunteers responded to the station and were held on station pending the cancellation.

At 5:02 PM, our fire police in Traffic 8 and a personal vehicle responded to assist the police with a tractor trailer disabled in the roadway on Old Wilmington Road, south of Stove Pipe Hill. They were in-service for approximately 45 minutes.

At 7:54 PM, just as a storm moved through with lightning, KVFD was dispatched to a fire - unknown, in the unit block of E. Highland Road, Highland Township. A resident reported to see black smoke coming from behind some residences but couldn't determine what was on fire. Upon arrival, units discovered that a home owner was taking advantage of the wet ground to burn down an old shed on the property but failed to notify the County Fire Radio of the controlled burn.

At 2:52 AM, Ambulance 8-2 with a paramedic from Brandywine Hospital, was dispatched to chest pains on Zook Road.

At 4:31 AM, KVFD was dispatched to an odor investigation in the unit block of Murray Drive, Highland Township. Homeowners, who had years ago had a major structure fire starting from an electrical fire in the basement, had a smoke detector activation with an odor of smoke present in the home. Ladder 8, Engine 8-1, Engine 8-3, Traffic 8, Command 8, Engine 27-2 from Cochranville, with Ambulance 46-1 from Christiana, responded. (our ambulance was busy on the previous call).

Investigation revealed that there was no fire or other hazard found, and crews cleared the call about 30 minutes later.
