August 20, 2014

Scott joined the Parkesburg Fire Company at age 21 after meeting some members at the fair. His father is a Borough employee who knew most of firefighters. So Scott was familiar with the fire company and said that he joined because he wanted to help others in the community.

After graduating from Octorara High School, he attended a construction technical school in Delaware and then decided to attend YTI Career Institute in York and graduated with a degree in Motorcycle Technology. Since 2002 he has worked at the Parkesburg Walmart, and his career goal is stay in the fire service maybe as a career firefighter/driver.

Scott's most memorable fire was the Millview Apartment Fire in Coatesville on September 10, 2010. That night more than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze that caused roughly $1.5 million in damage to the 28-unit building. Scott was assigned as part of the crew of Engine 28-1 to check adjacent structures for extension of the fire. While doing so there was a ceiling collapse at the primary site, and evacuation tones were transmitted. Seven firefighters were injured. He said that he will never forget that night. It serves to highlight the dangers we face in the fire service.

Because of Scott's mechanical ability and training, he is one of the "go to" guys with the small engines and equipment. Most recently he set up and started the Hurst equipment at the fatal accident on Rt. #30 this weekend.

Scott also placed third in the 2014 KVFD Firefighter Challenge held on August 2, 2014. Congratulations Scott!
