On Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 10:16 AM, KVFD along with Gap Truck 42, was dispatched to Chilis Bar & Grill for an automatic fire alarm.

Supplemental information from fire radio advised Chief 8 (Gathercole) that the alarm company spoke to the manager on-scene requesting the fire department to cancel. Chief 8 recalled the Truck 42 and held the assignment to Station #8 only.

Engine 8-2, with four firefighters, and Engine 8-1, with three firefighters, made the response to Chilis. On-scene Engine 8-2 arrived to make contact with the manager. They investigated and were advised that an active fire was inside the dishwasher from food on the element but it was extinguished by the staff.

Upon arrival Ambulance 8-2 was diverted to a EMS medical call in the Borough of Parkesburg.

Further investigation noted the machine was immediately shut-down by staff and the odor of burnt food and smoke was evident within the building.

Crews assisted staff with natural ventilation and checked the equipment to ensure the fire was out and the status of the dishwasher.

At 10:29 AM, the incident was placed under control and units cleared shortly after at 10:37 AM.
