Passing of Fire District Chair-person and Township Supervisor - Frank Haas (Updated)

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of West Sadsbury Township Supervisor Frank Haas.

Frank was a driving force behind Keystone Valley Fire Department and the regional fire district. Frank spent many hours behind the scenes and in the public forum helping us become who and what we are today…KVFD.

The details as of now indicate that Frank's health had rapidly declined; however, his fight was amazing. He attended meetings this past Wednesday and Thursday evening and served the community even in his final moments.

Frank was by far our biggest supporter! And it's ironic that in his last 24 hours of life, we battled a huge barn fire within view of his house, while he was fighting to stay alive under hospice care at home. When his son, Frank Jr., told him about the fire, Frank was too ill to get out of bed but remarked that KVFD will handle it. And he would have been there to support us if it had been just a few days earlier. The family while sorting through old photos this weekend actually found one with Frank touring a firehouse in Philadelphia with his two young sons. Although he wasn't a firefighter, Frank apparently always appreciated the work of firefighters. Today, we were proud to present a KVFD helmet and other branded gear to his family for their use in the Celebration of his Life.

RIP Mr. Haas!

Updated, Sunday at 7:23 PM from the family:

Mr. Frank Haas, passed away on Friday evening at 8:25 p.m. He had an 18-month fight with a rare and extremely deadly form of cancer, including severe chemotherapy last winter and surgery in August. He took great pride in KVFD, his association with all of you and the fact that he never missed a meeting even when he was most ill.

He was aware of his likely fate when he was at the fire meeting on Tuesday, but he thought it imperative to be there for West Sadsbury Township, the district and the area in general.

His funeral will be Saturday, March 28 at Our Lady of Fatima, 1 Fatima Drive, Secane, PA 19018. A viewing will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. with a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Cemetery will be St. Peter & Paul (across the street from Cardinal O'Hara H.S.).

Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
