This is fire prevention week and in addition to last Saturday's event at the Home Depot, area firefighters made numerous age-appropriate demonstrations or presentations today at each of the schools in the Octorara Area School District. Please see our Facebook page for additional photos.

KVFD, Cochranville, Christiana and Westwood participated in today's event.

Staff photos by Chief Gathercole, FF/EMT Bambrick and Capt. Budzik (from the ladder)

Please also mark your calendar for a future event:

KVFD will be partnering with the American Red Cross and local Emergency Management Coordinators, on Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, to deliver and install smoke detectors in our community: Parkesburg Borough, Highland Township, Sadsbury Township and West Sadsbury Township.

There will be a limited amount of free smoke detectors available so if you need one email us now at smokedetector@kvfd8.com. Please note your full name, address and contact number.

Keep your family safe with a working smoke alarm in every bedroom.

Did you know that roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are asleep?

Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half!
