On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 7:07 AM, KVFD, with multiple surrounding fire companies and ambulances, was dispatched to an apartment building fire at Westminister Place. The caller advised 9-1-1 that there was smoke on the second floor with alarms sounding from one of the apartments. This generated a dispatch of significant resources because that location is a senior housing facility with many disabled residents.

Deputy 8, Ladder 8 w/Chief 8, Tanker 8, and Engine 8-2 responded with Deputy Cazillo assuming "Westminister Command."

On-scene nothing was showing from the exterior however, within the facility smoke was present on the second floor. The Investigation revealed that there was food on the stove burning in an apartment on the second floor of the facility.

The fire was out on arrival in the second floor apartment however, the smoke condition pushed past the apartment involved and led out into the second floor of the facility.

Crews went into service for ventilation, and the response was held to KVFD units and units responding and already on-scene from Westwood, Sadsbury and Cochranville Fire Companies.

Cochranville's Engine 27-2 relocated to stand- by at our Central station.

Deputy Chief Cazillo reported that the fire was under control at 7:23 AM, with all units clearing at 7:33 AM.
