KVFD fire police, with multiple other fire police units from Chester and Lancaster counties, responded at 2:44 PM to assist the Sadsbury Township police with traffic control on Business Rt.#30 between the Rt.#30 Bypass and Old Wilmington Road for wires down on the roadway. Reportedly a truck pulled down both Comcast and Verizon wires, and those wires blocked the road.

KVFD fire police and surrounding fire police units assisted until the roadway was cleared at 6:49 PM.

Please keep in mind that all of the responders are volunteers, and none of them had plans to be directing traffic for four hours this afternoon.

Chief Gathercole said this evening,"On behalf of the municipal officials and police, and KVFD, I want to express our appreciation to the many volunteers who assisted in directing traffic and doing so safely on a high volume roadway before and during the evening rush hour. We greatly appreciate your assistance. The fire police are a critical and much-needed resource in our community. A resource that many communities have disbanded simply because there are no fire police officers available. As with volunteer firefighters and EMT's, we are always recruiting fire police officers. Training and uniforms are provided at no cost. See our website to join our team."

Today KVFD also responded to several automatic fire alarms, and the rescue of a duckling in a storm drain.
