Monday Night Training - "5 Minute Drills"

May 2, 2016

Tonight's training targeted the tasks necessary in the critical first five minutes of a fire response. These assignments are known as the "Bread and Butter" operations on the fire ground.

The training was lead by Chief Gathercole with Deputy Chief Cazillo running Command and Ass't Chief Klingler handling operations.

The tasks included were for the Engine company to establish a water supply from a hydrant to the apparatus, stretch a line to the fire room while expediently getting water on the fire. The ladder company was tasked with getting ladders on the building on all egress locations for the victims and fire personnel inside.

Crews ran the drills several times following our response guidelines and standing orders for KVFD.

The crews worked together on communication from riding the right front seat to the arrival on the fire ground. Personnel were tasked with assignments that they normally do not encounter and we able to work together to effectively maintain the situation.

Thank you to FF Tim Reynolds for educating the juniors on hydrant operations, Captain Schreiber for handling the truck company skills and Captain Guiney for maintaining the Engine company tasks and coordination of crews inside the structure. Also thanks to Lt. Legieko for assisting with some drivers training on Rescue 8.

Despite the rainy weather crews completed packing hose, and bringing Rescue 8 back to "Combat Ready" response while the rain was coming down....
