For the last few Monday evenings, KVFD personnel trained on basement fires and the risks and hazards of the specifics on lower level fires. On Monday, October 3rd firefighters attended the classroom portion of the class. Then last Monday, the firefighters went to CCPSTC and participated in the live burn portion of the class.

The class was led by Instructor John DeMarco of Chester County Public Safety Training Center.

The modern residential basement may be packed with electronic equipment and furnishings. A basement fire can present serious challenges for responding firefighting crews. This course addresses the important issues such as size-up, strategy, tactics deployment and safety that fire officers and firefighters must address to safely and effectively extinguish a fire located in a basement.

Engine 8-2 was used for the live-fire portion of the class. Crews encountered two live fires in separate portions of the lower level at the burn building. Crews trained on fire attack on lower levels and were able to experience the difficulty and challenge presented on basement fires.

Ambulance 8-2 was staffed and remained on-scene as stand-by EMS unit.

Thanks to the CCDES Instructors who assisted on Monday evenings class.

While several of the firefighters participated in the class, several exterior and junior firefighters remained at the Central station for training led by Senior Firefighter George Budzik.
