Equine Lift Assist

At 3:45 PM, KVFD was dispatched as per a "Fire Chief Notification" to assist with an animal rescue in a field at the 200 block of S. Church Street, Borough of Parkesburg. The career staff on Ambulance 8-2 initially responded, assessed the situation and then requested a fire response. Rescue 8, Assistant 8, and Tac 8 responded.

Firefighters found a 30-year-old horse who was blind and recumbent. She had fallen under a farm wagon. (Being recumbent is actually a significant health risk for equines.)

Firefighters rigged 3" hose to assist in lifting her. A veterinarian responded and administered medication. Soon the horse was up and about.

At 4:29 PM, as firefighters were finishing up, an accident was dispatched for the 100 block of S. Church Street. Assistant 8 and Tac 8 responded and assisted in debris clean-up. There were no injuries.

I am the woman whose horse you saved. I am sorry I am late in thanking you profusely, I am still taking this all in. When I got the phone call that Tootie was down, I was sure that it was the end. A short time later, I got a call back from Megan Marran, Tootie was up and acting like nothing happened. Megan sent the pictures of the rescue, and I was beyond happy about all of you efforts in saving my girl! Thank you again so much! You saved my BFF, Tootie!
