At 3:45 PM, KVFD was dispatched as per a "Fire Chief Notification" to assist with an animal rescue in a field at the 200 block of S. Church Street, Borough of Parkesburg. The career staff on Ambulance 8-2 initially responded, assessed the situation and then requested a fire response. Rescue 8, Assistant 8, and Tac 8 responded.
Firefighters found a 30-year-old horse who was blind and recumbent. She had fallen under a farm wagon. (Being recumbent is actually a significant health risk for equines.)
Firefighters rigged 3" hose to assist in lifting her. A veterinarian responded and administered medication. Soon the horse was up and about.
At 4:29 PM, as firefighters were finishing up, an accident was dispatched for the 100 block of S. Church Street. Assistant 8 and Tac 8 responded and assisted in debris clean-up. There were no injuries.
