Firefighter/EMT Tyler Devoe and Firefighter/EMT Shane Desiderio are in their final weeks of training for certification as a Firefighter-1 at the Chester County Public Safety Training Center in South Coatesville.

Chief Cazillo said,"Both firefighters exemplify what it means to serve our District. They have dedicated many hours in training and responses to our region over the years."

This is an intense course in the basics of firefighting. Both Shane and Tyler have previously earned their PA EMT certification, a course with over 200 hours of training in emergency medicine, and they frequently run calls on our ambulances.

The PA Firefighter-1 requires the completion of 172 hours of training. The course ran part-time from February to April. Both firefighters spent many weekday evenings and full days on weekends to complete this course all while working their full-time jobs and running fire/rescue/EMS calls. They both have been serving as volunteer firefighters for years and completion of this course takes them to a new level of service.

"Friends and Family Day" is an initiative by the Chester County DES to showcase the hard work and dedication of those VOLUNTEER firefighters who are taking the Firefighter-1 course.
