March 10, 2019

On Thursday, Deputy Chief Josh Schreiber leaves on a year-long deployment as part of the Army's Battle Group Poland. Josh is a Sgt. (E-5) calvary scout and team leader with the PA Army National Guard. His unit, the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team 3278 CAV, has been assigned a one year tour of duty there as part of a NATO mission.

Josh is employed fulltime by the City of Coatesville Fire Department as an acting battalion chief, and he volunteers as a deputy chief at KVFD. He started his fire/EMS career as a junior firefighter at the Parkesburg Fire Co.

KVFD has three other members serving in the Army:

Nate Gathercole is a cadet and is in his freshman year at the Valley Forge Military Academy. He is currently assigned to the PA Army National Guard at Horsham and during the summer break from school will undergo training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon graduation from Valley Forge, he will be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army.

Peter Mango is a Specialist (E-4), a paratrooper assigned to the 82 Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. He is the team leader of a weapons squad and just this week completed two years of service. He earned his Combat Infantry Badge during an eight-month deployment to Afghanistan last year. Peter's unit is deploying this summer to Fort Polk Louisiana for training and is also currently scheduled to jump into the Netherlands in September as part of the Operation Market Garden memorial service.

Cassidy Scheibe is a career EMT at KVFD and a Specialist (E-4) a medic in the PA National Guard assigned to the 1-111th Infantry Battalion. She graduated from the 26-week combat medic specialist course at Fort Sam Houston in November 2017, and her unit is due to deploy to Macedonia this summer. Cassidy is also a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Glenmore Fire Company.

Many other KVFD members are military veterans or have served in the military.

Chief Cazillo said,”we are very proud of all, wish them the best and commend them for their service to both our community and the nation."
