This morning at 03:22 AM Keystone Valley firefighters along with additional mutual aid units were dispatched to a fire in the 300 block Strasburg Avenue in the Borough of Parkesburg.

The caller reported that smoke was filling-up inside his house after he heard an electrical popping sound. Parkesburg Police arrived on-scene in 2 mins and confirmed the best access to the residence was from North Street and advised Chester County Fire Radio that smoke and fire were evident from the front of the house and it was coming from the walls with a popping sound inside.

Chief 8 arrived on-scene and confirmed a 3-story single-family dwelling with smoke showing. Chief 8 assumed the "North Street Command" and had Ladder 8 proceed in and take the driveway. The best access to the dwelling came from the rear of the residence as the house sits up on the hill on Strasburg Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the bulk of the fire on the first floor of the house and between the first and second floors. Ladder 8 arrived as the first-due Engine and crews deployed a 1 3/4 hand line to the first floor.

Rescue 8 arrived as the 2nd due Engine and was advised to hook-up to the hydrant at N. Culvert and North Street and lay-in for the water supply.

Crews arrived from Cochranville (Engine 27-2), Sadsburyville (Engine 31-1& 2) Gap Fire Company (Truck 42). Crews were assigned to the manpower pool handled by Assistant 31.

Chief Gathercole credited the homeowner for his quick action to notify 9-1-1, shutting doors to reduce airflow, and evacuating the house. This reduced the risk to life and minimized the amount of fire damage.

The fire was placed under control at 0357 hours with units on-scene in-service.

Crews remained on-scene and performed overhaul and assisted the Fire Marshals. The incident investigation was handled by the Chester County Fire Marshal.

Units cleared the scene at 0530 hours this morning.
