KVFD along with mutual-aid from Cochranville for two Engines, Sadsburyville for an Engine, and Gap for RIT were dispatched at 0304 hours this morning for a house fire on Walnut Street in Parkesburg Borough.

Chief and Deputy 8 responded at 0306 hours and were advised of a fire in the laundry room of the residence extended from the exterior. Parkesburg Police arrived on-scene confirming the fire was being extinguished by the homeowner with a garden hose and there was significant damage to the exterior of the residence on the backside of the structure with closet access from Second Avenue.

The occupants of the residence were alerted by working smoke detectors which prompted them to evacuate and for the homeowner to locate the fire on the exterior of the dwelling and using a garden hose to extinguish it until the arrival of the fire department.

Ladder 8 arrived on-scene as the first-due Aerial with Rescue 8 as first-due Engine arriving from the Second Avenue side. Rescue 8 deployed a rear attack line to the fire building on side -c- as Ladder 8 ventilated the structure. Engine 8 arrived and assisted the crews of Ladder & Rescue 8. The incident was reduced down holding the response to KVFD and Cochranville FD.

Chester County Fire Marshals were requested to the scene as well as Belfor.

The incident is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshals Office.

All units cleared at 0442 hours.

This incident was another example of working smoke detectors and lives being saved due to working smoking detectors and prompt action of the homeowner.
