| Today thirteen KVFD Junior firefighters participated in the first day of the two day program presented by Fire Service Instructor Steve Miller at the Chester County Public Safety Facility in South Coatesville. They joined juniors from Coatesville City, West Grove and Twin Valley to learn the basics. The DES website describes the course as: "This is a 16-hour course that will cover various fire service topics. Students will receive more hands-on as well as a more in-depth look at the duties allowed by Junior Fire Fighters under the child labor laws of the Commonwealth. Hazardous Materials Awareness will also be completed." Deputy Chief Gathercole brought Engine 8-3 for Instructor Miller to use while the County's training engine was committed to the West Chester site for National certifications. The Juniors are the future of the fire service in Chester County. For additional information about Junior Firefighting programs please contact your local fire department.
