Busy Saturday for KVFD Volunteers

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, KVFD had a spike in call volume driven in part by our willingness to help other fire companies, and a high wildfire threat in Chester County.

Rescue 8 with a crew of five (5) started the day off covering West Grove three stations (12-22-32) while their members attended their live burn training at the West Chester training facility.

Rescue 8 handled one call for West Grove, a motor vehicle accident that was handled by Rescue 8 and Ambulance 12-1.

Tac 8 responded to assist Christiana Station # 52 on a brush fire in Lancaster County.

At 3:04 PM, Tanker 8 was dispatched to assist the Modena Fire Company with an out building fire in the 100 block of Modena Road along with Westwood, Coatesville (Ladder), and Engine 76 in South Coatesville Borough.

Chief 37 responded and was notified by county that they believed it to be working, Chief 37 arrived on scene at 3:009 PM reporting a shed well off along with a 1/4 acre of woods. He established "Modena Road Command."

With the fire rapidly spreading up the hill, additional brush units were alerted to report to the driveway at 36 Overhill Road to access the fire from the right flank, Engine 37-3 reported to the top side on South Hill Drive to cut off the fire from reaching the houses, additional engines and Tanker 8 assisted on the top side.

The fire was contained at 3:55 PM, with all units working. The fire had consumed 3 1/2 to 4 acres before being contained.

Brush 8 also responded to assist Modena however upon accessing a trail, it got stuck. The crew disembarked, assisted Modena Fire and other mutual-aid on-scene companies, and then freed Brush 8.
