On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 10:23 AM, KVFD along with Christiana Fire Company-Engine 52-1, Gap Fire Company-Engine 42-2, Christiana Ambulance 41, and Westwood Ambulance 44-1 were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 3300 block of Upper Valley Road, between Bair Road and Lenover Hill Road, West Sadsbury Township, Chester County.

Ambulance 8 was committed to another EMS call.

A neighbor reported that a chair was on fire on the porch. The West Sadsbury Township police were the first to arrive and Ofc. Amber Smith reported that the fire was spreading slowly. She was able to remove the chair from the porch and prevent any extension. Deputy Chief Brian Gathercole then held the response to only KVFD units "on the street."

Ladder 8 and Tac 8, followed by Engine 8-1, soon arrived and Ladder 8's crew deployed a water can to extinguish the fire. It appears that improper disposal of smoking materials were the cause of the fire.

All units were back in service by 11:00 AM. KVFD Central then had a walk-in visitor, Chase, age 3, and his grand-mother. They had been driving past and saw the doors open. Jr. FF Mango gave them a tour of Ladder 8.
