At 3:30 AM, Thursday morning, June 19, 2014, KVFD with the Cochranville Fire Company was dispatched to a house fire reported in the first block Martin Road, Highland Township, Chester County. Westwood Ambulance 44-1 was also dispatched.

Fire Marshal 45, Gerald McKee arrived at 3:40 AM, and reported a working fire in an abandoned house that was overgrown with brush and weeds.

Chief 8, Ladder 8, Ambulance 8-2, Engine 8-1, Engine 8-2, Engine 8-3, Tanker 8, Squad 8-1, and Traffic 8 responded from KVFD. Cochranville responded with Engine 27-1, Engine 27-2, and Engine 27-5.

Chief Stackhouse arrived and assumed "Martin Road Command." He instructed that Ladder 8 set up a master stream upon arrival to begin a defensive operation. The site was very difficult to access due to the overgrown vegetation.

Thunder storms had just cleared the area and there was high humidity that challenged the firefighters.

Water supply was provided by tankers with a tanker from Christiana Fire Company also responding to assist.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes with all crews clearing the scene by 5:11 AM. It is under investigation by the Chester County and State police fire marshals.

Ladder 42 from the Gap Fire Company assisted with a stand-by on our Central station.
