| On Sunday morning at 9:21 AM KVFD was dispatched for a fuel spill in the parking-lot of Wawa at Route 10 & 30. Squad 8-1 with Deputy 8 responded and was advised by CCFR that the spill has not occurred yet however, a boat was at pump # 16 and filled its fresh water intake with ten (10) gallons of gas. Wawa management was already on-scene and had the possible spill contained with a dike around the drainage system and also around the boat. KVFD personnel assisted with cribbing the boat trailer and using cribbing to lift the boat to drain the gas and catching it to be drained into a hazardous material container provided by Wawa. Engine 8-1 was requested for fire suppression support piece in case anything would of occurred. Crews cut off the power to the gas pumps and also disconnect the battery to the boat and its pump within the fresh water system. KVFD personnel went into service mitigating the situation. Upon completion the fresh water system was flowed with a garden hose from Engine 8-1. The incident was contained to that location and the material was disposed of properly. Great job by the KVFD personnel and the incident was handled on-scene with the potential hazmat incident being mitigated. |
