On Saturday afternoon at 1:07 PM, KVFD was dispatched to a serious accident with entrapment on Rt.#30 at Moscow Road, West Sadsbury Township, Chester County. Initial reports were two vehicles involved, one a sedan and the second was a Garda armored truck. One victim was reported to be heavily entrapped.

A second ambulance from Christiana (Lanco) with a paramedic from Brandywine Hospital were also dispatched.

Ambulance 8-1 initially responded and upon arrival confirmed heavy entrapment. Rescue 8, Tac 8, Traffic 8, Squad 8-2 and fire police from surrounding areas responded to assist.

The entrapped victim was pronounced as deceased, and extrication was held pending clearance by the Chester County Coroner as per County protocol.

Additional fire, EMS and rescue resources were recalled and KVFD crews stood-by pending a release to proceed by the PD and Coroner.

KVFD fire police and fire police from other departments in Western Chester County and Eastern Lancaster County were faced with the monumental task of closing down Rt. #30 and redirecting traffic to side streets and Rt.#41. There were very significant traffic delays, and many, not so kind motorists, were communicating their displeasure to the fire police officers. Many others however followed directions and graciously stopped in standing traffic.

The victim was extricated once that action was approved by the Coroner and was transported as per their protocols.

Investigation is being conducted by the West Sadsbury Township police with assistance from
Sadsbury Township police.

The road re-opened at 4:45 PM. Lt. Nathan Delestienne, Officer on Rescue 8 served as Command and said after the incident that he was very appreciative of the work of the crews, especially the fire police from KVFD and surrounding areas. They clearly had the most difficult job.
