Fire Prevention at Westminster Place

On Thursday afternoon, Chief Raymond Stackhouse, Ass't Chief Robbie Cazillo, our PIO, and our career staff on Ambulance 8-2 traveled to Westminster Place to meet with the residents and discuss fire safety.

This facility has 72 one or two-bedroom senior apartments, all with fully equipped kitchens, spacious living rooms and walk-in closets.

After meeting with the property manager and discussing a procedure for a fire drill, and response plans, it was decided that KVFD staff would walk through the building and knock on the apartment doors inviting the residents to an impromptu meeting to discuss fire safety and a response plan. Chief Stackhouse then led an hour long discussion answering many questions from the residents.

It was agreed that we would work with the property manager to update plans and then schedule a fire drill to practice the responses ultimately leading to an unannounced fire drill. This all became a priority after a kitchen fire that occurred a few weeks ago. It's a priority of KVFD to partner with our community to prevent fires and define clear response plans if one were to occur.

Thanks to the residents for taking time this afternoon to meet with us.
