September 27, 2025

On September 27th, 2025, Modena Fire Company along with many neighboring mutual aid fire companies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Doe Run Church Road in East Fallowfield Township for a barn fire.

Modena Fire Company units and the mutual aid fire company units including Engine, Tanker, Rescue, Tac, Utility 8 made the response and were advised by the Chester County 911 Center that the caller reported a barn on fire with horses trapped inside.

Ambulance 37 went on the scene to confirm the report and Deputy 37 (Reason) requested a "Working Fire Dispatch) and 1st Alarm Tanker Task Force. Assistant 37 (Bryant) arrived and assumed the (Doe Run Church Command) as units arrived, they were given their assignments by the commander. Battalion 41 (Lentz) arrived on Ladder 41 and was assigned to the operations role. Due to the progression of the fire prior to the arrival of the fire companies it was decided that suppression of the fire would be a defensive attack (from the exterior) using master stream operations and a collapse zone was established.

Assistant 37 (Bryant) requested a fill site be setup at a hydrant in the area of the Chester County Public Safety Training Center for the tankers. Kennett Fire Company Engine 24 handled that assignment along with Chief 8 (Marks) and Deputy 35 (Ziegler). Due to the distance of the fill site from the fire and the fact they were using master stream operations a 2nd alarm tanker task force was requested to the scene to keep an adequate supply of water coming to the scene. Over 57,000 Gallons of water was used to extinguish this fire.

The fire was officially placed under control at 23:41 with all hands working with extensive overhaul. The command reported that 11 horses were able to be accounted for at the time that the fire was placed under control.

All Keystone Valley Fire Department units cleared the scene at 3:18.
