| It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Life Member, Past Chief, and board member Raymond Campbell.
Ray Campbell joined the fire service in 1968. Since 1968 Ray has served in many capacities and many positions along the way in his volunteer capacity.
Ray Campbell devoted many decades to the fire service and the communities of Western Chester County, demonstrating exceptional leadership, commitment, and vision.
Ray served as Fire Chief of the Pomeroy Volunteer Fire Company during the following terms:
• 1979 to 1983 (4 years)
• 1985 to 1990 (5 years)
• 1992 to 2000 (8 years)
In addition to his time as Chief, Ray held a variety of leadership roles, including line officer positions and board appointments. He served as both Trustee and President of the Pomeroy Volunteer Fire Company, demonstrating unwavering dedication to the organization.
After the formation of the Keystone Valley Fire Department in 2013, Ray was named the first Chairman of the KVFD Board of Directors, serving in this capacity until 2019. His leadership and guidance were instrumental in shaping the foundation of the department during its early years.
Ray also played a significant role in promoting regionalization of emergency services in Western Chester County. As a member of the regionalization Steering Committee, he was involved in cooperative planning efforts with Pomeroy, Parkesburg, and Atglen, helping to build a stronger and more sustainable system for emergency services in the region.
Ray’s legacy will continue through the organizations he supported, the firefighters and leaders he mentored, and the communities he loyally served.
We extend our condolences to Ray’s family, friends, and all current and former members who had the honor of serving with him.
Chief Campbell’s service and dedication to the fire service will always be remembered.
