Tonight Parkesburg Volunteers continued our weekly training with the topic of ropes. The night began with Deputy Chief Reynolds reviewing basic Fire Service Knots and there use's. After assuring proficiency with all members present we moved on to basic rigging scenarios. Crews were shown how to rig up a simple "2:1" bag along with rigging up a "4:1" mechanical advantage. We reviewed several different ways to work around obstacles along with anchor points and different types of anchors that we use. We then reviewed the "2:1" bag that was taught a few weeks ago by Station 46(Minquas) members that is used when rescuing a downed firefighter. The bag makes the work much easier of pulling a downed firefighter around obstacles and through larger areas. All members did a great job tonight and we will be moving forward with more ropes training in the near future.
