| Yesterday was a busy training Saturday for the KVFD. Chief Raymond Stackhouse attended a course at the Montgomery County Fire Training Center on "Standards of Coverage" while four other members attended a course at the nearby PECO George Haggar Fire Training Center to learn how to respond to electric, gas and CO emergencies.
Meanwhile "back in town" the KVFD worked with the Cochranville Fire Department, Sadsburyville Fire Co., Christiana Fire Company and Sikorsky Helicopter's Fire Department on rural water supply and tanker operations at the Bellaire Business Park in Sadsbury Township.
Chief "Sonny" Reimold of the Christiania Fire Company assisted in instructing on the various methods of rural water supply.
At 9:52 AM., Deputy Chief Gathercole took "a break" to respond in Squad 8-2 with three firefighters to a reported accident with unknown injuries on Rt. #10 at the quarry. Ambulance 8 also responded and reported that the driver was uninjured and no additional services were required. All KVFD units then returned to the training evolution.
During the training, attendees were able to see and have demonstrated the various types of Rural Water Supply. The use of Porta-Tanks were demonstrated with the Tankers 8,27-5, 52-2 shuttling water and also able to see the nurse method with Engine 27-5 used as a nurse to supply Engine 31-1 and Ladder 8.
Ladder 8 was able to establish master stream operations as Engine 31-1 had hand lines and a Blitz Fire in service. Members from Station #52 were practicing hand line evolutions and Blitz fire operations.
Many newer operators of the apparatus were able to get experience on the apparatus and had a chance to see and use various pumps, and drafting techniques.
Deputy Chief Gathercole expressed his appreciation for the attendance of Chief Adam Grossman and members of the Sadsburyville Fire Company, and Deputy Chief Robert C. Linnenbaugh and members of the Cochranville Fire Company, as well as the participation of the Christiana, and Sikorsky firefighters.
He said,"It's very meaningful when so many members of KVFD and our neighboring fire companies take time away from their weekend and family to train together. When dispatched, we all must work together seamlessly to save lives and protect property. Thanks to all for your efforts today."
The training concluded with a demonstration of Sikorsky's Foam 78 and their "Pump and Go" operation meaning that Foam 78 is capable of placing water and/or foam on a fire while in motion.
At the conclusion of training all attendees were invited back to the KVFD Central Station for lunch and a debriefing.
