"PSA" from a Community Member - Great Advice

This a post from a FB friend and is a very valuable message. Nice job Cochranville Fire Co. too.

Remember-when in doubt, call us out! We have CO monitors on all first out units.

"Hi Friends- just wanted to put out a PSA (public service announcement:)) and remind everyone to make sure you have a Carbon Monoxide Detector!!

We had one that we thankfully had moved with us from our old house to the new house. Yesterday morning it went off, but then stopped. Being a paranoid mom I said "well lets run and get another, just to be sure it was a fluke thing" we bought 2 more so we then had one on each floor of our house. Later in the day 2 of them started going off within minutes of each other! We opened doors, I took the girls out, and my husband turned off the furnace, and then called the Fire Department.

We were pretty sure it was the furnace, but still…. Cochranville Fire Department came right away, and yes- the levels were highest by the furnace and in basement, so they got everything cleared out and deemed the house safe (we're not using furnace till we get it fixed of course!) I am just so incredibly thankful that we had the detector in the first place and for the help of the fire department! My point is- when I was lying in bed last night I just kept thinking "what if we didn't have a CO detector?" "what if we forgot it when we moved and forgot to replace it"? I know we've all heard it but yes- it is the silent killer- CO does not smell, there's no smoke, there were no signs that our furnace wasn't working right…. Please- if you have a CO detector, make sure you're using it, and if you don't, please get one."

Please see http://www.cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm for additional information. It could save your life! We already lost two teens this year due to CO poisoning.
